Knowing where to end laminate at doorways is important for the over all look of your finished floors.
Laminate under door jamb.
If you do this without the pad then the jamb will be too tight for the laminate to flow freely.
First of all you will need a scrap of laminate and then a scrap of the pad that will go under the laminate.
You can use a variety of tools and i will show them in the video below.
Cutting your own door jambs with a hand saw is the least expensive way.
In my opening photo is a door jamb hand saw which can be purchased for under 20 00 at the big box stores.
If your installing your own laminate flooring you may need to under cut some door jambs.
If there s a gap under your door casing and also a gap between two rooms under a door where two different installations of laminate flooring join you can install t molding to hide both gaps.
You will need to both of these to cut the proper height of the jamb.
Installing the tilt up laminate under door jambs.
Clean the laminate flooring regularly with appropriate products.
Next you slide the plank under the door jamb and tap it back toward you with a pull bar so it engages in the adjoining plank.
In order to cut the door jambs you need to use a pull saw or a regular back saw as their teeth are sharp and the blade is very thin.
To install the last row of laminate under a door jamb you have to first cut the plank to fit the space.
Measure on the inner jamb as well as both sides of the door where the trim is located.
When cutting laminate with a power tool such as a circular saw or jigsaw place the plank s good side face down.
You can rent or purchase an electric jamb saw if you prefer.
As a rule you want the laminate transition to be directly under the door when the door is closed.
If your flooring runs parallel with the door you ll likely have only one piece of laminate to trim.
For instance you don t want carpet from a room to show from the laminate side when the door is closed.
The cuts will not show since they will be hidden under the door jamb.
Install the laminate under the door jamb not around it.
